In this tutorial, you will learn how to create an interactive webmap using the qgis2web plugin of QGIS software package. qgis2web plugin is able to generate web maps off of a QGIS project either as OpenLayers, Leaflet or Mapbox GL JS. The generated webmap shall replicate the different components of the QGIS project such as different GIS layers, styles and formatting and the project extent. This webmap can be accessed using your internet browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge etc.), which means you can comfortably pack an entire QGIS project and pass it onto somebody else, and they would be able to open the project and view its aforementioned components interactively, without having to use a dedicated QGIS software package. #qgis #webmap #geodeltalabs

A Web mapping or an online mapping is the process of using the maps delivered by geographic information systems (GIS) on the Internet, more specifically in the World Wide Web (WWW). A web map or an online map is both served and consumed, thus web mapping is more than just web cartography, it is a service by which consumers may choose what the map will show. Web GIS emphasizes geodata processing aspects more involved with design aspects such as data acquisition and server software architecture such as data storage and algorithms, than it does the end-user reports themselves. The terms web GIS and web mapping remain somewhat synonymous. Web GIS uses web maps, and end users who are web mapping are gaining analytical capabilities. The term location-based services refers to web mapping consumer goods and services. Web mapping usually involves a web browser or other user agent capable of client-server interactions. Questions of quality, usability, social benefits, and legal constraints are driving its evolution. #WebGIS #Webmapping #QGIS #Simple_webmap #Web_map #how_to

QGIS2Web allows you to author a map in QGIS and then convert to a web map that you can use in your web site. The results can be quite powerful. It may not be as polished as ArcGIS Online but in many ways it is much simpler and much less expensive. The maps created are standard Leaflet or OpenLayers web maps that you can easily modify as needed if you need to. You can learn more about the Leaflet JavaScript API from my courses described at 🤍

In 2021, Lizmap is 10 years old. Lizmap is an Open Source application to create web map applications, based on a QGIS project. It's composed of a QGIS plugin and a Web Client. Lizmap has been designed to take advantage of QGIS Server to facilitate the creation of Web maps. We will present the state of the project, the last changes using on a QGIS Server plugin and futur perspectives. At 3Liz, we are QGIS and PostGIS lovers. We are contributors of QGIS, mainly QGIS Server. We promote Open Source GIS solutions, mainly OSGeo, to our customers. In 2011, we decided to develop, as an Open Source Software, the Lizmap solution. The design of Lizmap aimed to publish Web Mapping applications with QGIS. The objective of Lizmap is to design and configure web mapping applications with QGIS desktop and only with it. No coding skills are needed. Lizmap takes full advantages of QGIS Server: symbology, labels, table relationships, print layouts, forms, etc. Lizmap consists of 2 tools: * Lizmap plugin allows to configure the options and tools of the web mapping application based on the QGIS project * Lizmap Web Client, running on a server with QGIS Server, delivers the user interface of the web mapping application from the QGIS project and the Lizmap configuration. Lizmap offers the possibility to publish simple web mapping applications for data consultation, but also to build advanced applications allowing map printing, data editing, search, dataviz, etc. Lizmap is also extensible. It is possible to add your own JavaScript and to use Lizmap modules (to add some extra features on top of Lizmap). Finally, Lizmap benefits from a growing community (localizations, documentation, JavaScripts, bug triaging, etc) and it is used all over the world (Indian ocean environment survey, Georice in South-East Asia, SAERI in South Atlantic, etc). Sometimes you'll be able to see data on a map online, but you may instead want to work with it directly in QGIS. If the data publisher has created the web map using the json format then you can often get it into QGIS with just a few clicks, if you know where to look. In this example we'll look at how to get location data from parkrun into QGIS. What the heck is a json file? It's just a text file containing lots of information, and in our case this includes coordinate location data for parkrun events across the world. You can open a json file in any text editor on your computer and you'll see for yourself. 🤍 Link to the json file: 🤍 parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. parkrun is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning in towns and cities across the world.
