In this video, Karen shows how to make an R-2R Ladder DAC using just resistors, all of the same value. The ladder uses 12 of the digital I/O on an Arduino Uno as its inputs. Full-Scale Output Voltage of DAC The Full-Scale output voltage is the maximum output possible with the DAC. FSO = [( 2 ^n ) - 1] x step size Or step size = FSO / [ ( 2 ^n ) - 1] Binary Weighted Resistor DAC : The binary Weighted Resistor DAC can be designed by using the op-amp as a summing amplifier. If the input and the value of the resistors are in the according to the binary number then it can be used to convert the digital input into an analog output. Limitations of Binary Weighted Resistor DAC: As the number of bits increases, the difference between the minimum and the maximum required resistor value for DAC will increase. And it is difficult to fabricate the resistor with good accuracy in the multiplication of 2. In fact, that can increase the error in the output. That's why this DAC is not used when high resolution and high accuracy is required. Poormans Digital Function Generator. 8-bit R2R DAC with a selectable smoothing/coupling/disable capacitor option. Waveforms: Sine Square Sawtooth Ramp Triangle Complex custom waves With the jumper(a switch in the simulator/schematic, the simulator doesn't have pin headers) you can enable the smoothing capabilities of the cap, with the jumper open you can use it as a signal output so the cap acts as a coupling capacitor or just disable the cap by leaving it open and use normal output pins. The speed is not that great, 10-20Khz at best for most waves at full 8-bit resolution, only the square wave is fast(Mhz's), it uses a hardware timer for the square wave. #shorts #computerscience #arduino #electronic #shortsfeed #electronica

Alot of you have been asking me to review the Musician Audio Pegasus Dac in comparison with the Denafrips Ares 2 dac. Some of you thought that this dac compared favorably to the more expensive denafrips venus dac. Welp, here is the full truth from our side. update: Musician Audio contacted back to us again recently - They offered to take the unit back and diagnose the issues communicated. We are open to re-evaluating the Pegasus DAC if they wish to after sorting out the defects. more details to follow. UPDATE 2021: They have decided to cut all communications with us. In this lesson of The Learning Circuit, Karen discusses digital to analog converters, or DACs. The world around us is analog, but the technology we use is often digital. So we need a way to make our technology communicate with the real world. Sensing the world around us generates analog signals. These can be converted to digital signals that our technology can understand by using ADCs. To get signals back out of our technology, sometimes we need to convert those digital signals back to analog. For this we use DACs.
