It’s time for a Japanese hot hatch showdown! We’ve got Yianni in the new Civic Type R, and he’s facing off against Mat in the GR Yaris! So let’s see how these two compare. Starting with the Type R, it’s powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 329hp and 420Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels via a manual gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,429kg. Then we have the GR Yaris. It’s equipped with a 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbo that can put down 261hp and 360Nm. Just like the Type R, it’s a manual, and it tips the scales at 1,280kg. Throwback to August 10 in Tarlac Circuit Hill, where I had one of my most memorable races in Touge Battle: Season Six (2019). I joined Economy class using my Honda Jazz GK5 for the first time of the season, and was matched against the top economy class driver of the season, Kody Ng driving his Toyota Yaris. It's usually obvious who wins the race in Touge Battle just by judging by the gap between the two cars when they reach the finish line but this time, Kody and I initially had no idea who won. The race was THAT close. We both thought that we would be doing a sudden death match but the race organizers later announced that I had won the match up. Thank you to Kody for the great race.
