#colouredpeople #capetown #southafrica The colored people of South Africa are the most genetically mixed people in the world, with genetic heritage from the Bantu, Khoisan, South East Asian, European and Middle Eastern. Mitochondrial DNA studies have demonstrated that many maternal lines of the Coloured population are descended from Khoisan women. As a consequence of Apartheid policies and despite the abolition of the Population Registration Act in 1991, Coloureds are regarded as one of four race groups in South Africa. Thank you and welcome to Afroartista Films. The Coloured community has a rich history that dates back to the arrival of the first Dutch settlers in the 17th century. These settlers brought with them slaves from Indonesia, Madagascar, and other parts of Africa, and through intermarriage, a new mixed-race population was formed. The Coloured people were considered a separate group from the white settlers and the indigenous black population, and were subject to different laws and policies under apartheid. About twenty percent of the Coloured speak English as their mother tongue, mostly those of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Virtually all Cape Town Coloureds are bilingual. About 13.5% of the South African population, around 7 million people, speak Afrikaans as a first language, making it the third most common natively-spoken language in the country. This is the language that most Coloured people speak. It evolved from early Dutch spoken by the first immigrants from Holland and despite obvious similarities with Dutch, it is today considered as a distinct language. Here is a sample of the language. Coloureds are mostly found in the western part of South Africa. In Cape Town, they form 45.4% of the total population. The various subgroups of the coloured people are the Cape Malays, The Griqua, Cape Colored as well as any other mixed race broadly labelled as others. Cape Coloureds identify as black in every other country besides Namibia. The reason is because the racial classification in other countries is different from South Africa and Namibia's racial classification and other countries don't have the racial classification "coloured". The Coloured community faced significant challenges throughout history, particularly during the apartheid era. They were denied many basic rights and faced discrimination in areas such as education, employment, and housing. The end of apartheid in 1994 brought significant changes for the Coloured community. They were no longer legally classified as a separate group and were granted the same rights as other South Africans. However, many Coloured people still face economic and social challenges, particularly economic inequality, Education disparities, Health disparities, Housing crisis, racial discrimination, Political under–representation and violence and crime. Despite these challenges, the Coloured community has remained a vital and vibrant part of South African society. They continue to make important contributions to the country's culture, economy and politics. They have played a prominent role in the country's music, arts, and sports, and have produced many notable figures such as Alex la Guma, Trevor Noah, Peter Abrahams, Abdullah Ibrahim, AKA rest in Peace, Sho Machozi, and Zola Budd among many others. The Cape Malay coloured people are responsible for one of the most vibrant South African subcultures which can be seen in their unique Afrikaans dialect, foods and entertainment. In conclusion, the Coloured people of South Africa are a diverse and resilient group that has played a significant role in the country's history and culture. They have faced many challenges throughout history, particularly during the apartheid era, but have remained a vital and vibrant part of South African society. It's important that we continue to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of the Coloured community, and to work towards addressing the on-going challenges they face. We think that these guys including Trevor Noah, who came the closest, are missing a very important point which is that though Khoe and San are Indigenous Africans here since before the mixing started, and that the mixing started with them. The Khoe and San who were essentially not mixed were also automatically classified as Coloured and have become part of that mix so much that now more than 70% of Coloureds are genetically Khoisan. Yes there are mixed-race South Africans classified as Coloured who are Not Khoisan but to overlook the fact that The Majority of Coloureds have a Khoisan heritage is folly to say the least... The regulations set out racial employment quotas across 18 economic sectors and across all 9 provinces, which will affect every part of the South African economy. The regulations apply to all companies with more than 50 employees. They signal a new low for the ANC government, constituting a naked attempt to expand State control over the economy, deepen social divisions and ban certain communities from employment in particular sectors and parts of the country. The quotas seem especially targeted at the groups defined by the regulations as “coloured males,” “coloured females,” “Indian males” and “Indian females.” People from these communities suffered discrimination under the previous regime, and now they are being re-victimised by a democratic government that has learnt all the wrong lessons from the past. In sectors like agriculture, forestry and fisheries, mining and quarrying, manufacturing, finance, arts, and science, the “targets” set for coloured employees in provinces like Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West is 0.0%, effectively banning these groups from employment. Even in Gauteng, the country’s economic heartland, employment by people classified by the State as coloured is sometimes limited to below 1%. In the case of employees classified by the State as Indian, the targets are often as low as 0.1% across economic sectors. Consider the absurdity. A company with 50 employees that has even a single Indian person on the payroll will be in breach of the 0.1% limit, as 1 out of 50 is equal to 2% of that company’s total employees. Conversely, if that company fires its single Indian employee on the basis of race, it will also be in breach because it will then have 0% Indian employees. The social perversion created by these targets constitute a clear and urgent threat to the social fabric of South Africa. The implication is that companies operating in certain parts of the country are banned from employing even a single coloured or Indian person in a particular position. If companies defy these regulations, they will be severely punished by being disqualified from government contracts or doing business with the state. For the ANC, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and even certain sectors in Gauteng are now “no-go zones” for coloured and Indian South Africans seeking employment. Just as perverse is the implication of these quotas for black employees. In the Northern Cape, for example, employment of “black females” at private firms is limited to below 15.8%. Consequently, a company in Kimberley that happens to employ more skilled black women than the quota allows will also be punished and excluded from government contracts. The DA maintains that the EEA is the most dangerous piece of racial engineering our country has seen since the dawn of democracy. Its effect will be to stunt social mobility and increase division as workers from certain communities are discouraged from moving to “no-go zones” where they are not welcome. Far from promoting equality, the EEA will deepen division and further fragment our country into groups of insiders and outsiders. As we have already witnesses with the rise of Procurement Mafias, once the ANC starts publishing lists of companies that are “non-compliant” with the racial quotas, we are likely to see the emergence of employment mafias pushing for the hiring of the “right” connected ANC cadres into vacant positions. The economic costs of this discrimination will be severe at a time our country can hardly afford it. The State should not be getting in the way of business given the already unacceptable official unemployment rate of 32.7%, and the expanded rate of 42.6%. Unemployment will increase under these new regulations because companies that have vacancies will be precluded from hiring employees if they cannot find a candidate from the “right” background, with knock-on effects throughout the economy. These EEA regulations serve as a clear warning to South Africans that it is time to vote out the ANC and its proxies, like the Patriotic Alliance, which has returned the ANC to government across the country.

At the tip of Africa exists an admixed group of Africans, known as Coloureds. This is not a derogatory classification as it might be in other countries. The people known as Coloured can trace their lineage to Africans, Asians and Europeans. As a result, they have a unique culture that be unfamiliar, even to other South Africans. The designation Coloured broadly refers to the multiracial and multi generationally mixed people (usually called Cape Coloured), the native Khoi and San and even the Asian Cape Malays. This video aims to give a glimpse into the unique culture and tradition of the various Coloured groups in South Africa.
