Surveillance video released Friday shows three teenage suspects carjack an undercover Dallas police officer and the shootout that happened thereafter. The shooting happened about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of Northwest Highway near Interstate 35E. An officer with the North Crime Response Team, identified as Nathaniel Chapman, called 911 saying he had been shot and his covert vehicle had been stolen. Police Chief Eddie Garcia told WFAA that a car was parked behind Chapman and a suspect with two guns got out and approached his vehicle. Chapman then got out of his car, and both he and the suspect shot at each other. In the video, you see the three suspects – all of whom have since been arrested – pull up behind Chapman in a parking lot, and demand at gunpoint that he get out of his car. The three suspects were identified as 19-year-old Redricous Lewis, 17-year-old Redtravion Polk and 18-year-old Xavier Cook. They were all arrested in Shreveport, La., later that night on Wednesday. Shocking video shows a coordinated gang of carjackers forcing a driver out of his Audi at gunpoint and leaving him lying in the middle of a Chicago road as other cars drive by. The newly revealed footage shows an Audi A4 pulled over on a four-lane road with its headlights on when two other vehicles approach from the other direction — turning to trap the Audi by blocking it at the front and rear. At first, the Audi rolls forward as the desperate 27-year-old driver tries to escape, but within seconds, at least three men leap from the surrounding vehicles — with at least one pointing a gun at him. The targeted driver is then dragged out and thrown to the ground as the gang “displayed handguns and demanded the victim’s vehicle,” Chicago police said. An attacker is seen tying the driver’s hands behind his back, leaving him face-down in the street as others enter his car. Peel Regional Police are investigating after a man nearly had his vehicle stolen while sitting inside it outside his Brampton home. The alleged carjacking attempt occurred early Wednesday morning at a residence in Castlemore Road and Goreway Drive. Surveillance footage submitted to CityNews shows the victim getting into an SUV on his driveway around 5:15 a.m. Shortly after he gets inside, a white vehicle can be seen driving slowly past the home before coming to a stop just beyond the driveway.

Philadelphia police say they are seeing more carjackings in "suburban style" neighborhoods of Philadelphia as suspects become more brazen. On Monday, a carjacker stole an SUV from a driveway as a mother and daughter were headed out for work and school in Northeast Philadelphia. The man carrying a gun, wearing all black and purple surgical gloves, is seen on video lying in wait. He jumped out from behind a neighboring car to carjack the mother and daughter. Police say a 16-year-old and 17-year-old from the Washington D.C. area carjacked a driver right after he filled up his tank at a gas station. Video shows the teens forcing the door open, grabbing the driver and demanding the keys, Montgomery County detectives say. But when they got in the car and tried to take off, they had no idea how to drive it, police add. It was a stick shift. The teens were soon arrested after a chase. They’re being charged with one count of carjacking and one count of conspiracy carjacking. Inside Edition Digital has more.

York Regional Police is issuing a warning to the public following three carjackings in the City of Markham in the past week, believed to be linked to the same suspects. On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the victim was driving a grey Mercedes AMG sedan eastbound on Major Mackenzie Drive East when he came to a stop at Donald Cousens Parkway and was lightly struck from behind by a dark-coloured vehicle. When the victim exited his car, he was quickly approached by the driver and passenger of the other vehicle. Both suspects were wearing ski masks and dressed all in black. One of the suspects extended a baton and demanded the keys to the victim’s car. Both vehicles left the area in an unknown direction. The victim was not physically injured. Investigators believe the same suspects, operating a black BMW SUV, were also involved in two other similar carjackings within the last week. On Sunday, August 20, 2023, at approximately 3 a.m., the victim was driving a black Mercedes SUV westbound along Steeles Avenue East when he came to a red light at Victoria Park Avenue and was struck from behind by a black BMW SUV. When the victim exited to assess the damage, a suspect armed with a knife approached and demanded the victim’s keys and cellphone. The victim ran away and called police. The victim was not injured and his vehicle was not taken in that incident. The suspect was described as male, white, black hair, approximately 20-years-old, skinny build, 5’8” to 5’10”, wearing a black hoodie. On Thursday, August 17, 2023, at about 11:10 p.m., a victim’s black Mercedes was targeted by the same suspects in the area of Rinas Avenue and Beaverbrae Drive in Markham. A black BMW SUV rear-ended the victim’s vehicle while he was stopped at the intersection. A suspect approached with a knife and took the victim’s car. The suspect was described as male, white, 5’8” to 5’10”, wearing black pants, a black jacket and a black ski mask. Police are advising citizens to be aware of their surroundings. Trust your instincts. If you feel you are being followed, or if something doesn’t feel right, drive to a police station or contact police immediately. If you are the victim of a carjacking, do not risk your life over property that can be replaced.

Police departments in Seattle and Renton are warning drivers of a trend where staged vehicle accidents are used to carjack victims. Renton police say there has been an increase in staged vehicle accidents where the at-fault driver then goes on to carjack the victims. "We see this kind of thing periodically, once every year or two we'll have a similar occurrence there where there's some kind of ruse to get somebody to stop and then they're robbed at gunpoint," said Renton Police Detective Robert Onishi.
