Authorities say 13 people who were either shot, stabbed or hit by vehicles after a mass gathering in Syracuse, New York, are currently in stable condition. Syracuse, NY gets hit by three major types of snowstorms: nor'easters, lake effect and Alberta clippers. New York is the only state that borders both the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes, which puts the state in line for coastal storms and lake effect snow. Upstate New York is far enough north to have months of cold weather, and close enough to Canada to be in the path of Alberta clippers, which originate in the Canadian Rockies. The use of force incident happened at about 4:55 p.m. July 4 at the East Syracuse Walmart on Basile Row. DeWitt police created a 15-minute, narrated video of the incident using clips from different officers body cameras, store surveillance cameras and a bystander’s phone. This is a condensed version of that video, which was posted on the department’s Facebook page. It sits on Onondaga Lake, although the lake is clearly an afterthought, due to its history of pollution. Syracuse is now important for being an important central crossroads, being the intersection of Interstates 90 and 81, and also was a major city on the Erie Canal. Instead of driving straight to Connecticut for Nutmeg Nor'easter we stopped roughly half way in Syracuse, New York. We rode to dinner and then did a bike path and road combination loop of Onondaga Lake. We stopped to meet a buddy of Brad's at a local brewery - Talking Cursive - before heading back to the air bnb. In the morning we rode to MelloVelo Bike Shop which also had an attached cafe - the shop and the food were awesome. Then it was wheels up for CT and the adventures at Nutmeg Nor'easter! Syracuse was a cool city - I'm glad we stopped - I hope to return doing the Erie Canal Trail at some point. Passengers and a driver on a Centro bus were injured Jan. 19, 2017, when a pickup-truck crashed into and became stuck in the side of a bus on the north side of Syracuse, N.Y., according to city police. This is raw video from the security camera on the bus which shows the truck crashing through the side of the bus. A passenger in the pickup was also hospitalized, police said. Police said that about 2 p.m. Neil Brownell was driving a pickup truck when he got off off Interstate 81 north at Park Street. Brownell apparently swerved to the left lane to avoid stopped traffic near the end of the ramp, police said. The pickup went off the road and kept going until it hit the middle of a Centro busthat was stopped on Park Street for a traffic light at Farmers Market Place.
